Rec Letter Question

Hello,

I'm applying to many top computer science schools and I have no idea who to ask for my 2nd teacher recommendation.

I already asked one teacher who taught me Statistics and Computer Science. He knows a lot about my out of school computer science projects and my passion for the subject, so I'm sure he'll right about that and about my great performance in his statistics class as well.

Is it a bad idea to ask my AP Calculus teacher for my 2nd recommendation? It's different math than statistics and computer science, but calculus is also essential for an education in computer science. I don't understand the importance in asking a teacher in humanities subjects, since I won't be taking any of those classes in college. They both will write about different things, and they both loved me as a student.

What do you guys think?

I don’t think it is a big issue whatever you do, but both of my kids were recommended by their guidance counselor to get one math/science teacher and one in the humanities. Most admission officers I’ve heard speak prefer two teachers in different disciplines. Even if you are majoring in CS, schools generally like to know about your skills/work ethic in other areas. My D who is a science major had one recommendation from a science teacher and one from an English teacher. I’d also ask your guidance counselor’s opinion as well.

Oh ok, thanks a lot for the input. I’ll surely ask my guidance counselor as well.
