So one of my favorite teachers has been fired by my school and obviously won’t be coming back next year. He was math teacher this year (junior) and I did great in the class and he really liked me so naturally I was going to have him write my rec letter for when I apply next year to college. Is it frowned upon by colleges if I have someone write it who doesn’t currently teach at the school I attend or does it only matter that he taught me at one point. Furthermore, do you think it would be a good idea to have a teacher write a rec letter for a student who attends a school that more or less snubbed him? Thanks!
It’s fine. Students move, teachers move/retire. It happens. Just make sure you let him know your intent so you can get his personal email address so you can keep in contact.
His rec letter will be to ALL your target colleges and not addressed to any single one. Frankly, you’ll use it for various scholarship apps you may be considering as well. He won’t be so stupid as to slag you or one of your possible target schools – he’s not that unprofessional is he?
