D was planning on asking her APUSH and AP Seminar teachers for red letters for college apps . They both wrote recommendations for her for a competitive summer program that she got through the first round, so D thinks the letters must have been good enough. She also thought both teachers would be teaching next year (AP Comp Gov/IR and AP Research), however, the first class got cancelled, and the second class will most likely have a different teacher assigned. So now she’s thinking whether it’s worth considering some other teachers instead. A few considerations:
- I saw many postings about reference letters being 1 from STEM, one from humanities teachers. How important is that? She has/had good relationship with her AB Calc and Pre-Calc H teachers, but she certainly wasn’t exceptional nor does she want to go into a STEM-related field.
- Next year, she has a chance to get a teacher for Econ/Gov who is also her coach for the Mock Trial team (D was elected president for next year, was involved since freshman year, but their team is not that strong, never won any awards, etc.; still, the teacher knows her very well). She has good relationship with both teachers. Should she ask for a recommendation from the coach/Econ teacher instead of her junior year APUSH teacher? Does it really matter?
Thanks in advance!
