I know Amherst asks for 1 counselor and 2 teacher recs, but is it ok if i send maybe 2 more? The 2 other people have known me longer than any of my teachers, and i know they will have something different to write. Also, I’m applying early so should i send in the other two recs with my application or when i possibly get deffered to the regualr pool?

Sure. I sent in like 3 additional recs (was being frantic lol). IMHO you can show all your strengths straight away in the ED round - why keep your aces hidden and wait till you get deferred (when the competition is way more intense) to show 'em? Getting deferred shouldn't even be an option:p

Haha, thanks!

What happens if I apply for EA, but I don't have enough money to study? Do you guys know?

If you are talking about Amherst specifically, then you've got your facts wrong because Amherst has no EA. If youre talking about EA in general, you can just choose not to go to that school since EA isnt binding. If you actually mean ED then you probably shouldnt be applying ED if you dont think you can pay for it. If you get accepted ED and do not choose to go, your school basically gets blacklisted, and a lot of other bad stuff happens. Hope that helps. :)

Although I do think that if you are accepted ED, and you cannot pay, it's not that bad. What most schools do though, is make sure they ofgfger you a very competitive aid package if they accept you ED. If they want you so badly that they accept you ED, they're going to go the extra mile to make sure you attend.

I think it's something you should definitely consider directly asking the admin office at Amherst.

thanks for your all advices...I have another question, what do I benefit if I choose EA? Do you guys know?

No EA at Amherst. Just ED and RD. Apparently the percentages of acceptances is higher for ED.

There's one Amherst-peculiar thing though: Amherst declares they won't accept more than one third of the incoming class from the ED pool. I guess it's to give the RD people a chance too, in case ED applicants are somewhat weaker and rely on the ED edge to secure a seat.
