Hi
so I asked my math teacher to write me a recommendation but he told me he was busy with his Ph.D exams so I gave the form to my science teacher. Yesterday I went to see if my counselor had sent the forms(the teachers give the counselor the forms and he includes his as well and sends them) and he told me that my math teacher gave him a recommendation. I went to ask my math teacher and he told me he had time to write one but not on the MIT form. Are additional recs OK. Will this rec be discarded? How will it be treated

This will be fine. Don't worry about it. I'm sure it will be considered. And if he took the time to write a rec letter it's probably a good one. I know it's difficult, but you can relax.

thnx. yeah he showed it to me. It was great

Teachers at my son's HS seldom use the school-provided forms and in fact did not use the MIT forms, yet students were accepted. As long as the rec was sent, it's fine. The Admissions folks have said they'll welcome an extra rec if it adds something meaningful to your application. (Just piling on extra recs that say the same things they've already read won't be worthwhile and isn't likely to impress them.)

I think it was different because I didnt see the other two. Smth else, I forgot to waive my right to see the rec from my science teacher but I did sign on the other. How will the adcom interpret this!
