recalculating gpa?

a friend of mine says that stanford recalculates gpa (for admissions) and that they take out non-core classes and freshman year, is this true? if so, how much weight do they put on the recalculated gpa?

It's true, and GPA is an important factor.

yes, gpa is certainly an important factor, but how important is the recalculated gpa (compared to stuff like class rank, actual gpa, etc)?

Are you asking us for a percentage composition of how "important" Stanford views each of the categories they look at (i.e. gpa, ECs, essays)?

I don't think any of us know that... correct me if I'm wrong.

I feel as though you're overanalyzing and micromanaging "what colleges look for". Do your best, because that's all you have control over.

I think that Stanford will look at the grades you got in each of your classes, not just look at the GPA and be done with it.

They don't use "actual GPA", only the one they recalculate. Exact class rank is not very important (many schools don't rank their students), but you certainly are expected to be in the top 10% of your class.

They take CORE classes from 10th grade. CORE meaning Math, Science, English, SS and Foreign Language. From the admission officer herself, she said that's the FIRST thing they do before looking at the rest of the application.
