Recc vs. Personal Letter...hmm

What do you think has greater value in an admission officer's eyes. I am currently in my gap year and I am actually working in a hospital while taking part-time classes. Classes are only one or two but it would still make me eligible to apply as an incoming fresman. I think that asking the hospital surgeon to write a personal leter will have much impact. But if I ask a teacher during my gap year to write a recc describing my gap year, my work in hospial, m academic potential, would it be best to give her one of those Common App recs or ask her to submit a letter...or both?

I just hope to give collees the best perspective on my gap year. Thats all.

Thanks.

I think the teacher rec would be better, just because it's from someone involved in your academic life, and you're applying to a fundamentally academic institution.

Include both, though. I'm sure they'll both help.

i'm on a gap year too, and i plan to have my teacher in part-time classes write one for me, and my supervisor at the company where i work as an intern to write one for me too.
