Hello, so I’m a fairly strong student with 3.83 UW gpa, 2340 sat, and top 6% of grade. My extravurriculars are pretty solid including published research and over 600 volunteer hours and a few leadership positions. So I decided that I want to double major in economics and computer science in college. My goal is not necessarily to become a software engineer but more on the management side of tech companies or quantitive finance/ software of financial companies. For example dream jobs would be a program manager at Facebook or financial software developer at Goldman Sachs. Because of this, I feel a double major in computer science and economics will best serve my interests since I like engineering and busiNess. So far I’ve found duke to be a solid choice that I will look into. What other colleges should I look into applying next year with my stats and interests? Thank you
You will need matches and safeties. Duke is only a slightly less reachy than HYPSM.
You may want to consider schools where the CS major is not engineering-based and does not require extra science courses, to have more room for economics courses. For example, Rutgers’ BA program in CS does not have the extra non-CS science requirements that Rutgers’ BS program in CS does.
For the serious study of econ, schools within the top six or so of these online analyses may have some of the country’s best programs: “US Economics Departments,” “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges,” IDEAS.
Look into Stanford’s MS&E program. It might be a nice blend of what you are seeking. Not as much pure economics, but as business-ish as one can get at Stanford considering there is no undergraduate business school. You could do it with a CS minor or follow it with a CS coterm. There is also a MS&E coterm.
Stanford also offers several CS + programs.
