Is it a bad idea to ask for a reccomendation from a professor if you got a B in their course? I wouldn't bother but the professor is also my advisor. I got a B in the class freshman year, when I had mono and she was aware of it. I think I can impress her otherwise, and I have other grades from other coures to prove I am capable. Anyway, do you think she will write a less than stellar rec for me just because I got a B in her course?

Oh, I took the lab components of her course sophomore year and got As both semesters.

Thanks.

buuuuuuuump. help me out please!

chriscap, she’s the only one who can answer your question. Present it to her like this (or similar): “Dr. Bgiver, knowing how competitive med school is, and the importance of great rec letters, would you feel comfortable writing me one?” Gauge her reaction. If any hesitation, look elsewhere.

DD has an LOR from a dept dean who was also her prof for a year of a prereq- she could not do any better than B+, but she got to know him quite well and he volunteered that he could write her a ‘strong’ letter, so ask your advisor if she is comfortable writing a STRONG letter, if so, go for it
