Reccomendation Letters (too many?) HELP

Hi!

I’m in a bit of a predicament. I have three teacher recommendation letters and one counselor recommendation letter. I already sent these letters to most colleges but I was recently able to get my current art teacher to write a stellar rec letter for me for a single college that required a supplemental art teacher recommendation letter. I am applying for studio arts at a few ivies (Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell) and was wondering whether it would be a good idea to add my art teacher’s recommendation letter as well. This would be 4 teacher recommendation letters and 1 counselor recommendation letter…Is this too much? I know 100% they are all extremely good.

Please help!

Generally the counselor rec and two teacher recs is generally the max that should be submitted. The art teacher could perhaps be viewed as a supplemental rec since art is not an academic subject – particular if the letter is structured to discuss your talent/passion for art. I would not send 3 academic teacher recs though.

@happy1 The problem is I already sent 1 counselor rec, and 3 teacher recs (one of them never taught me but is my student council adviser). I am planning on majoring in studio art and was wondering if it was worth sending my art teacher’s recommendation letter even if it meant sending 4 “teacher” recs (max allowed).

I think in your case the art rec could be a useful addition to your application. If there isn’t room on the Common App to add it, you can mail it to the colleges.
