for some of the schools i have chosen to apply to, it syas the teacher recs i ned are 1 from a math/science teacher and one from a social sciences/english teacher. what should i do if throughout most of my high school career my english and history classes have been the worst of my schedule grade wise ( like a b or b+). also does something like band teacher count if i have a lot of time spent with him as a social science/ english teach rec.?

I'm going to bet that band definitely does not count, though you might be able to squeeze by with a foreign language teacher possibly if that benefits you, but really teachers aren't going to base their entire evaluation of you in the recommendation solely on what grade you received in their class, and on top of it, a B/B+ is really a fine grade [wait I'm on CC ;)], but seriously if having B+/B is getting you all nervous, don't... as long as you were an active student in the class and you maintain a solid interest in the subject regardless of what your grade says otherwise then you should be fine. I mean hell I did fine, and I had straight B/B+'s in English and History, so...

I think band should count for something. At a public highschool especially, you might only have a specific teacher for one year. If the student gets an A he likes you, if you get a C the teacher does not. It is as simple as that. The teacher has no time to see your character. Your band teacher, though, knows alot more about you as he has seen your bad and good for three years. Although it is not an A-G course I think the band teacher can give a more accurate account on his student than a calculus teacher. I actually do not know the answer specifically but I think you should talk to your guidance counselor and ask her about recomendations.

you can always ask the band teacher for a supplement rec.
