Reccomendations???

So i know reccomendations are not a big factor at all since they are not required, but how helpful can they be?

What if i got my summer professor from the University of Chicago to write a letter?
Or have University of Chicago send y transcript?

(im in highschool and took intensive japanese at chicago this summer. I got an A-)

I would say recommendation letters are not really helpful unless you are applying for a Major Scholarship. But, if you were to send the recommendation letters, please have your adviser signed across the flaps of the envelopes.

Don't bother sending anything at all unless it's for a major scholarship.

I sent stuff in, but I doubt it made a difference. Still, I don't suppose there's any reason not to.

Do Americans even have a chance at a "major scholarship?"

Hard to say. Alot of the veteran McGill parents (like McGilldad) have seen kids with high GPA's and EC's out the whazoo get nothing from McGill where as everywhere else they've applied they've received scholarships. You have a chance at winning the lotto, if that means anything.

Think of it like this: if you don't expect a scholarship, you won't be disappointed when you don't get one. If you're qualified enough to enter into McGill next year, you shouldn't have any problems getting money from other schools (hell I didn't get a dime under $10k/year from every school I got into except McGill).

Well i mean i think im qualified. And i can't get a scholarship or aide, nor do i need any.

Faculty of Arts and Sciences only looks at 11-12 grade right? I read it on the website. Correct me if im wrong.

But Junior year i got a 3.75uw, and a 4.17w.
Senior year i am expecting first quarter grades to be
4.0uw and 5.0w.
ACT 32
so does it look good?

BIGTWIX re scholarships, here are the minimum
requirements. You have the GPA. Also top 5 percent of class and minimum 660 SAT scores. This is just to be in the running.

i would rank in top 5 for junior and senior year (if 9 and 10 were excluded) but they dont show that on transcripts

I believe for scholarships you submit recommedations. So your guidance counselor would put that in his recommendation, and of course everything that is great about you.
