so I have one rec from an 11th grade english teacher
when it comes to my other rec I'm having problems

I can either the second rec from my freshman year history teacher (10th grade-moved to florida/no contact, 11th grade-horrible Econ teacher/idiot, 12th grade-have only known for 1 week). Or I can get a second rec from a 11th grade math teacher and a supplemental rec from the 9th grade history teacher.

either way, I'm going against the advice of the Yale Admissions website, which discourages both supplemental recs and recs from freshman year.

the reason I want a history teacher rec is because its my prospective major and my main EC is National History Day (my freshman teacher is the faculty advisor and has known me through that all throughout hs).

in your opinion, what should I do? a rec from a freshman year teacher, or 3 recs. I just dont want to seem like I'm blatantly ignoring their "rules" regarding the recs.

I have a similar problem; my tenth grade english teacher is someone whom I've found truly to understand me, but I'm not sure I'll be able to have her as a teacher as a senior. She does actively advise one of my clubs and I have academic conversations with her regularly. And my prospective major is english. I'd love to hear someone's answer, as well.

i doubt that it matters who writes your rec as long as it's good.

i mean, one of mine is coming from my 9/10th grade history teacher who is also the advisor for my club and who is my mentor for my research project. Even though she hasn't been my "teacher" for two years, I've still been closely associated with her and I think this will be fine.

Also, yale isn't the only college that will be getting your recommendations. There are plenty of other colleges that have no requirements on who write your recommendations... thus, yale can't really say anything (oh.. except reject you) if your school only allows you to have 2 recs.
