I was wondering if anyone of you have received an estimation of how much aid you will be getting in the summer yet? The website says estimations will come out sometime at the end of February but it does not specify which day. I am trying to figure out if I should go to summer school or not.

The financial aid website updated for me yesterday, actually. Did you submit your FAFSA for the upcoming school year yet? Maybe that’s why/ I submitted my FAFSA and a few days later it updated.

I haven’t received mine yet either. I just called the financial aid office and they said they were still updating everyone’s packages for the summer.

Um. Why is 10.5 units considered only 3/4 time? I would think that’s more than average for typical summer. Is Berkeley different because of the sessions?

Yeah this is the first summer my finaid is not covering all of my fees. The only reason I can think of is one of my classes starts in session C and the other session D. So for 2 weeks I’m not taking full time? Still seems odd to me, but then again Berkeley BS bureaucracy is nothing new.

I’m planning to call on Wednesday, since I hate waiting around to ask a 2 second second question. If anyone else finds out why this is happening please let us all know.

I just talked to a FA, they told me it should update and reflect that I’m enrolled in 7 units before summer school starts.

She said they’re still working on spring FA, and that they would be starting summer FA in April, but she did them a bit confused so I’ll call again and next month and see whats up.

I’m pretty sure the rest of the financial aid covers tuition only, which costs $406/unit. So with my EFC of 0 and my enrollment in 8 units for this upcoming summer, I’m expected to get a Summer Fee Grant that covers exactly the cost of 8 units + the registration fee. I don’t think financial aid is offered for housing.

^Yep. From the Berkeley Summer Financial Aid FAQ:

"How many units do I need to take in order to qualify for financial aid?

The minimum amount of units you need to take to receive financial aid is 6 semester units. You can certainly take more than 6 units, but there is no exception to the 6 unit minimum."
