So I applied to Pitt Main Campus about a month ago. Today I received a letter asking me to send my mid-year grades and inform them if I was taking the SAT again. They said something about needing this information before making a final decision. Is this good news? I wasnt expecting to get in because my grades were so bad during freshman and sophomore year… thoughts and advice?
Sounds like you are on the brink, and they want something to put you over the line. I think this is the time to get an extra push from the guidance counselor when she sends the grade update, to send any info about any awards or honors you have received, to say ‘yes of course I’m taking the SAT/ACT again, and can get you those scores by xxx.’
It isn’t a “second decision” – rather the school wants more information before making a decision at all. I agree with the above that it sounds like you are on the cusp, that the school is considering your application carefully, and that updated positive information would help your case. If you were expecting to be rejected then it is good news. This is what you can do:
–Work hard to get the best mid-term grades you can and see that your guidance counselor sends them promptly.
–If you think you can study more and improve your standardized testing then give it another try. If the scores do improve send them to Pitt promptly.
–If you have any significant achievements since your application was submitted then let your admissions officer know in a short (emphasis on short since they are swamped) email.
