received admission letter last week. My son got into the predentistry. He called admission officer, got confirmation that he had admitted to Dental Medicine Guarantee program. The requirement seems too high to reach: maintain 3.7 average GPA, DAT 22. does anyone know this program? worth going?

there is a LOT to be said about a preadmittance to a dental program although I agree those stats are high to mantain. From what i’ve heard dental school is very hard to get into so my gut sense is yes it would be worth it to go to pitt. dont; know enough about program to help u on first question. and congrats. Since he got into this, i suspect he has a great college app

It’s similar to the GAP for Med School (maintain a 3.7, although I don’t know if they also have to score a certain amount on the MCAT). It is very difficult which is why many of my GAP friends decided to pursue “easier” majors to help maintain their GPA so that they wouldn’t have to worry about the guarantee being rescinded (which they will do if your GPA drops ~for any given semester~ below 3.7).

Thank you for the information, do you know if there are other advantages for dental school admission? such as waive the interview process, lower DAT score etc.? what is the difference of this program compared to Case Western 8 years PPSP? Case Western 8 years PPSP program seems very selective? but this Pitt’s program is not that selective. My son is considering to apply for Case Western Reserve PPSP as well. Many thanks!

most of the BS/DMD combined programs such as Leigh/UP, applicants need to apply to both undergraduate college and dental school and get conditional admission letter from dental school, but we were just automatically considered admissionton this program when we submitted our application, dental school did not get involved at this point. So what is differences between the other BS/DMD combined program and this Pitt’s program? sorry to ask so much. I could not find this information from Pitt’s website and did not get much information from the admission officer.
