Just received financial aid email with package, very happy to see what Villanova’s offering…
Same here, although it says I got $68,413 total for the first academic year. How is that possible when thats well over the tuition? Am I missing something? It makes no sense to me that I would get a full ride to Villanova and only $6000 to BU if that is true.
Make sure you note: Family Financing Option is what you are actual paying they just allow you to finance it in some way or another.
Villanova Grant is the only thing that really matters (only thing they are actually giving you for free), everything else is loan or an alternate method of structuring the tuition.
Edit: Looks like the grant total including everything is just over $68k (Check in Financial Aid Assistance PDF) so I think that breakdown is accurate. However, Family Financing Option should not be considered an award.
Does anyone know if Villanova does or has already done merit aid? It says this financial update was just related to FASFA, so maybe more is to come?
@2021USA123 I think merit scholarships would’ve been included in the acceptance letter. I don’t think they give much merit money, but they give a good amount of financial sid
I’m also having trouble understanding my financial aid package… Is $34,000 Villanova Grant (per year) considered to be a good amount of aid compared to what I could receive at other schools? I have $25,000 (per year) left for the Family Financing Option.
@2021USA123 , my S received his merit scholarship info via the portal last week and by mail today. Hope that helps some. Good luck to you!
I got $48,000 from Villanova Grant. Is that per year? That’s insane, it’s still just shy of a full ride. I’d be paying $2000 per year as a result.
I also didn’t apply for any scholarships. Is this all financial based or is merit factored in too?
@Alpacadude01 that one is a need-based grant. The merit scholarships would have shown up on your portal, I believe…
D received her FA note today and said we were responsible for the full boat at V. She was A back in Dec to VSB. Anyone who was waitlisted has now moved up a spot. She will not be attending and paying $68K to attend. Plenty of other B options for better value. All the best who were accepted and want to attend V.
My daughter received FA yesterday and we got a little more than 10K off in financial aid and no merit aid. She was also EA acceptance into VSB and 56K+ per year is not going to compare well with her other options for value. It is great to see that they offer nice aid packages for those with need and congrats to all that were accepted.
It says I received $30,000 a year from “tuition remission (not vu)” and I don’t know what that means. I am not related to anyone who works at VU. I don’t even know anyone who works at VU. Does anyone know what it means? Did they make a mistake?
@sannem2021 Do you have relatives that work for a related school? Do you work for a related school? I hope its real. That would be a nice bonus!
@STEM2017 I do t think I have any relatives that work for a related school and I don’t. My mom and I tried calling the financial aid office to ask and they’re not answering calls right now because they are receiving so many calls.
Don’t*
I did not receive an email and my portal looks the same, anyone else?
@sannem2021 If your parents work for a tuition exchange university (list: https://telo.tuitionexchange.org/schools.cfm) you get some/all of the tuition as remission – that means you don’t pay that amount ($30k), but your parents DO have to pay taxes on it as if it were income. Still, that means they are paying taxes on $30k instead of $30k.
