Receiving a Transfer Letter from Cornell telling you about their transfer process

Hi, I was just wandering if anybody else that was a member of Phi Theta Kappa received a letter from Cornell in Oct. 2008 telling you about their transfer process. Prior to receiving the letter from Cornell, I never thought about applying their because I never saw myself as an Ivy League student or even as an elite school student. Do you think that since the contacted me that this gives me a better shot at being accepted as a fall 2009 transfer student or do they just send thousands of these letters out a year?

I don’t know what their process is, but i’d say don’t sell yourself short on trying for a good school. I transfered from community college this year and was a PTK member/chapter officer. Take advantage of the things your college offers and try reaching out. Before joining PTK I was choosing between state schools, which was just a year and a half ago.

Just for future reference for other CC users, I received about 3 or 4 letters from Cornell asking me to consider them as I think about my transfer process. Well, I applied and was accepted! So, if you ever get these same letters from them, then you probably have a good shot at getting in.

i was initially turned onto the school by my counselor at my cc, but as i joined PTK, i eventually got a bunch of letters and stuff from Cornell telling me to apply.

i did, and i got accepted yesterday :]
haha

grommets right, dont sell yourself shortt

Well, thats great BrandNew70x7! I’m glad you got in too! I look forward to seeing you in the Fall!

i actually wontt be there till the spring :] but keep an eye open for me then! hah

sorry to bring up an old thread, but what the douce is Phi Theta Kappa? I’m fairly certain my community college does not have this.

Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society specific to two-year colleges.

Phi Beta Kappa was the first fraternity ever formed, and has morphed into an international premier honor society for four-year colleges and universities.

Well that totally stinks, I just looked it up and my community college does not have a chapter. That sounds like a nice way to get some attention while trying to transfer.
