Hey, just wondering how many people got scholarships, what were they called, and how much were they for? I know that the Trustee Distinguished Scholarship and the Century Scholarship both give out $54,000, but I'm not sure what other differences they might have. Anyone have any other information?

I got the $54000 trustee distinguished scholarship, definetly helps out a lot... Does anyone know if you can apply for other rice scholarships while at rice?

I got the Trustee Distinguished Scholarship ($54,000) and the Century Scholars thing ($15,000 + guaranteed two-year research mentorship).

Did they up the Century Scholarship? I thought that the century scholarship gave out 6,000 (Like three thousand for two years). I might be wrong about this too. My roomie is a century scholar and he said that it wasn't that much last year. Congratulations to you three, y'all must've been stellar students, or you had that special something that caught Rice's eye.

I got the 54,000 trustee scholarship too. Does this mean the amount of financial aid I get will go down?

same question as ^ bc i recieved the 54k trustee and century scholar like Avalon. i wonder with all this merit money, how good Rice's yield rate is....

What were you guys' stats? Scholarships, that's great. Maybe, I'll be in your positions two years down the road.

It is not the question of going up and down. It will remain flat.....Your out of pocket cost of attending Rice will stay the same if your EFC is less than COA. If your EFC is higher than COA, your family will save money.

Need based $ = COA - scholarships (Univ. + Other) - EFC - student loan - student contribution (summer jobs, part time jobs).

If your scholarships are larger than COA it will cut down your contribution and loan amount.

The official word from Rice is if you didn't receive merit awards in the acceptance package, it means you didn't qualify for any.

"I know that the Trustee Distinguished Scholarship and the Century Scholarship both give out $54,000, but I'm not sure what other differences they might have."

I don't think they both give out $54,000. I received both this year and from what information I got, the Trustee is 13,500 a year for 4 years, and the Century Scholarship is 7,500 a year for the first two years plus (like Avalon said) guaranteed research opportunities with mentors. Just to clear up any confusion.
