Recent BU merit aid thoughts?

My son was looking at BU for RD if he doesn’t get into his ED. He got an email that says “Apply by December 1st to apply for scholarships!”. Is it worth the 80 dollar application fee to have access to “extra” aid, or is there a lot of other merit aid anyway?

I found the latest table estimating aid:
http://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/incoming/freshman-receiving-scholarships/

and when I ran the NPC, it said 10K of need-based aid but merit aid did not show up.

So my question is, anyone at BU now who got decent merit aid without the Trustee or Presidential Scholarships (or any of the several other specific scholarships)? Do they have merit aid beyond the scholarships?

FWIW, he has around 2100 SAT and 3.7 W GPA, competitive coursework (7 APs, none allowed freshman year). I think he should get some merit aid based on that web page, but don’t know if he has to apply by December 1st to get access to it.

Do apply before that deadline - it does matter. However, the Trustee scholarship is a separate process (I believe it requires a nomination from H.S. principal.) It is also important to note that BU blends need and merit aid - so while your EFC might garner about 10k - his SAT and GPA will certainly net him some merit aid (which will be lumped in with the BU grant).

just apply before Dec1st for scholarship

Thank you, he got his app in yesterday (we’ve been away for the last few weekends) and BU already downloaded his materials :)
