What would the problems in Towers be?

Is there anyway to find out stats on those who have received the Chancellor's scholarships for the past few years?

I found a number of them here on the Pitt forum. I think it was under some thread asking the stats of those admitted, but people put scholarship info there too.

GA2012MOM, that's a good question. I think many of us have wondered the same thing. I don't know if OAFA will furnish you with that info, and I don't believe it's included in the common data set (found in Institutional Research). You can get some idea of the stats, though, by reading past posts on CC/University of Pittsburgh threads. (I learned a lot by reading the old posts when my D was applying.) You could probably guess, however, that the stats are right up there, along with some challenging experiences/background that the Chancellor recipients possess. Many students are nominated but few receive the full ride. Again, reading past posts will give you insight...

It also is not purely stats. Some kids with higher stats and more numerous accomplishments than winners did not even get an interview. Some speculate that OOS residency is an advantage. Who knows, Pitt never actually tells you.

I see "iloveagoodbrew" answered your question for you about Forbes. I'd just like to add that my freshman year I lived in Forbes, therefore my opinion may be slightly skewed, but nonetheless I truly believe that Forbes is the best living situation on campus. The rooms are huge, you get your own bathroom, and you aren't in the middle of all the craziness you find in Towers (though this has its advantages too). I personally stayed at Pitt because of the great friendships I forged and incredible people I met. In fact, I liked Forbes so much that seemingly everything that occured during my Sophomore year seemed like a major let down, and I considered transferring again.

Now for the food situation. Though it seems like a hike...and quite frankly is when it's cold out...you will quickly get used to the walk and will find it does not bother you in the least. My advice is, unless you eat 4 times per day, use classes as a time to grab food. By this I mean, leave a little early before a morning class and grab breakfast, or following your afternoon classes get some lunch. I generally did this, especially during cold months, and found it to be much more convenient.

Hope this helps!

In regards to the question of who received the Chancellor's this year: I don't know if it will be on there, but those people who were nominated had to go to a website to get the information to complete the forms. I remember one of the links on it had a list of everyone who received it over that last 10 years or so. Maybe it has been updated with the new winners. I don't have the link immediately, but maybe one of you may have it and be able to look it up. If I find it again. I'll post it.

I found the website. The list for 2007 is not up yet, but for future reference the site is
http://cscholar.honorscollege.pitt.edu/. Hope this will help you later on.

Too many to list but...dirty bathrooms (esp. on weekends when no maintenance ppl clean up puke, bile, etc..yeah), tiny rooms, horrible sleeping conditions (esp. tower C is realllll loud)..Those top the list I would say. I agree with Dilo..Go for Forbes. Lothrop is another excellent alternative. I doubt you will get into Pennsylvania/Panther as a freshman.

Well, Forbes is filled already as far as I know.

Bah. Only one engineer..

hey pat, i was wondering if u know a good place to get student loans from.. i will need quite a bit of money, and one of the personal loans we were looking at was like 10+% interest, which is ridiculous.. any ideas of what to do?

Have you checked out any of these, fisch?

http://www.pitt.edu/~oafa/loan.htm

They're your best bet as a Pitt student.

What would Pitt be like for a gay student? Would you describe the student body as open-minded?

I think people here are quite tolerant to everybody. :)

Yeah, sexual preference is really a non-issue on campus. I don't think a gay student would have any problems.

I figured I was being too Type A when I booked flights home for my daughter for Thanksgiving, but should I be worrying about Christmas already? Do these buses usually sell out? She would need to go to NYC>

I would just play it safe and book it as soon as possible.

The buses usually don't sell out, and you'll definately be safe as long as you buy your tickets about 2 weeks before the vacation.

Hi Pat.

I live in PA and I have to pay for college all myself so i wanted to go somewhere instate so i can recieve more financial aid.

Do you know how the communications/theatre programs are at some Pittsburgh colleges like Pitt or Duquense?

I want to major in Business and minor or double major in theatre or communications.

Kyle33, Duquesne is private, so tuition there is high whether you're in-state or out.

Pitt is excellent for both business and theater. As I mentioned in my original post, I am going back to Pitt for my MBA. I chose Pitt's program over several other prominent ones because I think the curriculum is set up well and the faculty is excellent. I also think their career services and networking is great, compared to the other schools I looked at.

I had one friend who was a theatre major at Pitt. He is in LA right now trying to make it as an actor. He enjoyed his time at Pitt and I think he learned a lot. However, he said that unless you go to a school like NYU or USC that is renowned for theatre, it really doesn't matter where you go to college. So if I were you, I would choose a school based on their business program, and just make sure they have some type of theatre that you can get involved in.
