Recent Pitt Grad Taking Questions

Kyle33,
Although Duquesne is private, it is a catholic institution. I know of kids who got substantial scholarships from their churches with the stipulation that they be used at a catholic (or jesuit?) college. Just a consideration if it applies to you.

If you are serious about pursuing theatre then you must attend a school reknown for its theatre department. Also, you should choose a school in a city that offers theatre in various venues. Syracuse (and i am not a lover of this school) happens to have a fine communications program and also a fine theatre/arts program. - both are competetive and well-known. The business school is ok. However, such a school offers what you are after. Check out some state schools as well. After researching, you will be surprised what you may uncover. Of course, NYU is great and the location of NYC for theatre is amazing. good luck!!

I'd add this to nurse123's comment: If you're interested in pursuing theater and you have a passion for it, take a look at Fordham U, Lincoln Center. Although it is a Jesuit school, students from all creeds and backgrounds attend there. Some successful people have come out of there. (Denzel Washington, the Academy Award winner, went there and has been known to stop by and speak with students.)

I would love to go to Syracuse or Fordham, it's just that i dont really have the money to go there since they are expensive.

I will be paying for college myself, and i dont mind taking out loans, but i just don't wan't to be burried in debt.

Like I said, if you're not planning on going to a top-tier theatre school, it really doesn't matter where you go because your career success will be based on your performances and contacts you make after you graduate. Pitt is just as good a school as any. Tons of successful people in art and entertainment have graduated from Pitt.

Kyle, you might try posting on the musical theater board, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=501. Those people are super knowledgeable! Even though you said "theater" and not "musical theater," someone there may be able to help you.

Or, you may want to pick a school that's strong in business that also has a thriving theater scene that you can participate in while not majoring in theater. From what I understand, schools really vary on this point.
