In the handbook for parents, the vacations are listed as follows:
Thanksgiving (November 27-November 30)
Winter (December 17-January 1)
Intercession (January 23-January 27)
Spring (March 21-March 29)
Summer (begins on May 24)

But if I'm buying plane tickets right now, should I actually get tickets for Nov. 27 and Nov. 30, or Nov. 27 and Dec. 1? What about the other breaks? Winter recess begins on Dec. 17, but do classes actually end on Dec. 17?

Thanksgiving, yes. As for winter...you should leave dec 17 (i could be wrong but i don't think you can stay in the dorms) but for one and a half weeks after jan 1st is reading period for exams. you don't have classes, and so do not necessarily have to be on campus. a lot of people elect not to come back on jan 1st. it depends on how long you want to be home for, and if flights are cheaper one or two days after jan 1st it would make sense to buy them for then. reviews take place during reading period, and classes for languages, but the reviews are usually recorded and put online. hope this helped.

Many students do not go home for Thanksgiving, so it's up to you whether to buy tickets or not. While there are no classes during Reading period, many students do return to campus early (though not necessarily on the very first day of Reading period) in order to finish doing research for their term papers or work on their take-home exams. Not all review sessions are taped and put online. Some language classes do continue to hold classes during Reading period.
After next year, the calendar will change, and there won't be exams in January.
