Recieved all rejections and one waitlist what do I do

I need some advice!

You should have applied to safeties. I can tell it’s going to happen to a lot of people to night cause’ it’s Ivy night.

Check a university like Missouri, which doesn’t have an application deadline, and see if there is any room in the class.

Otherwise check non-flagship state schools, such as UW-Milwaukee. Or apply to a flagship like UW-Madison for the Spring semester.

what were your stats, and the waitlist school?

Syracuse .

cbulla21 how do I find schools with no application deadline

In May there will be list of schools put out by NACAC that lists schools that still are accepting applications. There are often some surprising schools on the list. I would also look at some of your state schools.

thanks shennie

idk…I just applied there, and it just happened they didn’t have an app deadline. You can still apply for August 2008. Your won’t be able to get any department scholarships, you might still be able to get an OOS scholarship if they have any left…and your probably not going to get any financial aid for the first year, but you can still apply.

There is a thread here about this situation - it has a link in one of the first posts

good luck

maybe if you had your counselor call syracuse and explaint the situation, they might be more likely to accept you.

Hi I was really afraid that this would happen to me so I searched for a list and found this: [Colleges with Rolling Admissions](College Advice | Ordered by Most Popular | The Princeton Review)

which is a list of most of the rolling admissions colleges.

Also, use the collegeboard.com matchmaker to and search for schools who’s RD deadline has not passed yet. Most are not that good I’m afraid, but there are a surprising number of decent ones (judging purely on SAT scores and acceptance rates).

If all else fails, a productive gap year can actually give a better result than a year at a college you are not sure about.

JDP3990 the right idea- make sure they know that you would absolutely attend if offered a place.

JDP3990, I think that is a good idea

i think having the counselor calling isn’t going to make them want to take you any more - all they are going to say is that you should have thought of this possibility before you finalized your list of colleges to which you would apply and it’s your own fault you didn’t get in anywhere and they definitely won’t be happy that they were your safety.

i don’t mean to sound harsh, but i’m playing devil’s advocate. how is syracuse going to think when your counselor calls them? “hi, my student didn’t get in anywhere else but he’s on your waitlist. accept him please!” that’s not a reason for them to accept you.

but i would say try a community college to get some credits out of the way and then transfer somewhere

Do your best to get off the waitlist, look for colleges still taking applications, and start formulating your plan B.

however, if he was waitlisted, he was obviously qualified, and they would know for sure he would enroll. Also, its better than nothing, and just hope that the adcoms have a heart. Getting in off the syracuse waitlist isn’t exactly like trying to get in from the harvard waitlist; its doable

Yeah, but the desperate counselor call might make them verify that they made the right decision in not accepting him initially.

So should I have my counselor call?

Yes, absolutely. But be sure you want to go. Spending a gap year is not a ‘loser’s option.’ It could be the best year of your life so far.

I got rejected from 10 schools that I applied to except one state school which I really really do not want to go to. I feel so embarrassed everyone at my school has gotten into these amazing schools and I can not get into at least one. So I applied this Thursday or so to 5 other schools because I can not go to a CC. Because I will feel as if all my hard work at school was for nothing and that I could have had more fun in high school and fail everything and could have just ended up at a CC. I feel like I am living up to the stereotype of African Americans and I have always tried to work my butt off and show that I am black and I can go to a good school and be smart too. But I guess I was wrong about me.
