Recieving Free Applications from Schools

Hello :)

So I just recieved emails from 5 different school offering me "special" applications to apply to their school. "Special" meaning that I wouldn't have to pay for the application. I don't know what I could've done to get this and I was wondering if it's because I'm a minority (African-American) or something else.

Has anyone gotten these and have an idea on how they got it?

I’ve been getting these too…there’s a disclaimer thing at the bottom that says they received scores from ACT so I guess my scores? Not sure. Haven’t gotten any from my top choices yet though :(

My son (also black), got a few; best part; no new essays! Mostly from college board, but sometimes from demonstrated interest.

I’ve gotten on from Washington and Lee. They say it’s because of my continued demonstrated interest even though I’ve never replied to them or anything like that. I’m also black, but it’s most likely just because of the College Board and ACT services.

I got one from Fordham, but it did not list any specific reason. Don’t mind though - free is free :D

Okay cool  I’m not complaining, it’s great! I was just wondering :)

I’ve gotten a bunch of free apps and I’m white. However, I listed my race once as “Other” and another time I left it blank.

My son has gotten several. He did very well on his AP tests and one letter mentioned that as the reason for the offers.

I’ve gotten some, probably from PSAT/SAT scores.

Do you plan on taking advantage of the free apps? I can’t decide whether or not it’s worth it since we’d still have to send test scores, and most of the colleges that sent them don’t interest me. The only two I’m remotely interested in applying with is Tulane’s and maybe Washington and Lee’s.

I figure that if you WOULD go there, then apply. If not, then there’s no point in sending test scores. I got a few, but I’m only applying to one for their accelerated programs.

I was going to apply to all of them for the ego boost, but honestly, it’s not worth the SAT/ACT-send fee for me.

Same here Nevousness.

I might take advantage of 2 of them but that’s it. It’s just not worth the time if I won’t even consider going to the school.
