Recognition Day for Class of 2011

I have question about this... Do parents go to KP for this or is this something the plebes complete and celebrate on their own? I was under the impression that parents celebrated their "promotion", but my plebe tells me something else.

My son says listen to your plebe.. He also said you probably won’t get much of a “heads up” on when recognition will be. He told me that even in his first class year he didn’t know when it would be happening until almost the day that it did.. That can make it pretty tough for a parent to schedule being there.

it's a plebe day, you'll start hearing him talk about it more and more as he "thinks" it gets closer, but you won't know it happened until its already over

Yeah parents generally don't go to this...its a day when the regiment gets its last licks on the plebes since they will be plebes no more...but don't worry parents there will be lots of pics guarenteed and it'll be a day that they'll never forget...i gave my video camera to an upperclassmen and they video taped my whole recognition for me...if the parents want to see it that bad i suggest getting there plebe to do that.

RECOGNIZE 2011 :D :D :D....isn't there something about grilled cheese?

YouTube - 2010 Recognition

2010's Recognition Video

also, don't believe it until you see it ;)

How many PKTs have they completed?

Last I heard it was two and technically the second one was given to them. Aren't they supposed to do 10? Do you think they will be done by 2012 Indoc? (hahaha) I'm really not laughing!

The wife was chatting with the son last night and asked where they were. He said they were on #6.

Okay WYTL.....we're counting on you and your videophotographic talents!! Won't be hard to get 'em to smile this time. ;)

My son said they are on #6.

Yep, my son confirmed they are on #6. They apparently got 101 on the last one because they got extra credit LOL..had to laugh at that!

That means they still have 4 left to do. It looks like it will be a while before they are recognized. Still, there are advantages to being recognized before the trimester ends so encourage them to do their best.

He seems to think they may be recognized by the end of March. Let's hope so! :)

My son tells me recognition normally happens around the first or second week of April. For his class he said it was April 8th..

to be honest these kids don't really deserve to be recognized. they are all a bunch of cocky kids that really have an attitude problem.

Way to shut everybody up GG--care to explain?

they just don't do the things they are supposed to do. they aren't respectful to upperclassmen, the don't square, they don't greet. they just do not deserve to get recognized at all right now or in the very near future. i know people bash on the plebes every year, but i think most people here feel they are a bunch of kids with attitude problems. granted when i went out to sea i didn't expect to come back to the same locked on kids that i had in indoc, but i sure didn't expect this much of a slip.

"...don't do the things they are supposed to do.... aren't respectful to upperclassmen..., don't square, don't greet.... a bunch of kids with attitude problems.... I sure didn't expect this much of a slip...."

hmmm - wonder how they were "allowed" to get this way? Could it be lack of discipline? consistency? good examples to follow? no meaningful consequences? - sounds like a bunch of thoroughbreds with out a trainer/jockey - i.e. Leadership? Sounds like the “horses” are stronger than the handlers – just wondering…
