Recognition of UCSD

^ said all i wanted to say and more, excellent post.

Everyone touts UCSD’s sciences because everyone and their mother majors in science or engineering here.

20% of the school are biology majors. Just biology. This isn’t including the thousands of students in engineering, physics, chemistry and everything in between. So obviously population wise, it makes a big chunk. So that’s all you’re going to hear about UCSD, because that’s what everyone’s familiar with.

well i hear san diego’s grad program for econ is pretty top notch. which is all the better for me because i’ll probably go there as an econ major haha.

sorry I didn’t mean to burst any bubbles. I forgot this is the UCSD forum. My apologies.

Jmilton90, in previous posts, you’ve suggested choosing UCI and such over UCSD, so what you say can’t exactly be deemed unbiased as well. There’s no bubbles to be burst. If anything, the information presented above is actual evidence that UCSD isn’t a lesser college. If you want to rank your schools based on sports and such, clearly we aren’t on the same page as to what college is about. Kudos to Mealexy for backing up what he said.

jmilton -

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, but you’re still either missing the point or misusing cliches. You are not ‘bursting anyone’s bubble’ at all, at least in its common use of making a naive person aware of the reality. Your post was just plainly wrong and uninformed, as mealexy’s post demonstrates. It’s not really your fault; there is an incredible amount of misinformation about most schools I would imagine, but UCSD in particular. The internet acts as an echo-chamber in which these misconceptions are given life.

again, sorry. I realize this is a UCSD forum.

This is non-responsive. If you have a negative opinion of UCSD outside of math and science, I don’t really care, but at least engage in the substance of what people have been saying, instead of dodging the points and insinuating bias. That’s intellectually lazy at best and more likely a tacit admission that you had no idea what you were talking about.

? I apoligized like 3 times already. I absolutely do not mean to damage any UCSD pride.

^apologize more, plz. k thnx.

If you were sincere, I apologize - but I found it disingenous. Including “I realize this is a UCSD forum” in your apology made me feel like you were apologizing for posting your remarks on this particular board, and not for talking out of your *ss - which is the bigger issue. If I misread your post as such, that was my mistake.

I am totally in the same situation as you! I got into Cal and UCSD and I visited ucsd and loved it. I still cant decide because I havent visited cal, but it just feels like a “waste” in the sense that I had cal to choose but chose ucsd instead.
its weird. whenever i go read the cal threads on here I get swayed to cal, but when I come here, I am so much more into sd.
thats bad.

To jmilton90:

haha…it’s okay. I wasn’t really bothered by your original post in a personal way. I don’t think anyone actually took it to heart. I just thought it would be beneficial to post UCSD’s many achievements in a place where people actually care and listen as opposed to most social settings. My post was in response to your post, but it was intended to inform the public as much as it was to inform the future UCSD student that might have to be a little overzealous when speaking about UCSD with someone that is not familiar with the campus if they wish to convey how great of a school it is. I really do believe UCSD is a great, great school and it gets to me when I hear UCSD students bash their own school with false projections. I just hope future students can be proud of it the way I am.

Soooo…anyhow, I don’t think an apology was really necessary to begin with because I don’t think you purposely intended misinform any CC users, but your apologies are appreciated…all 3 of them. haha. Although you may have offended some people, I don’t think it’s useful for a person to take oneself so seriously and I wouldn’t be bothered by people that continue posting about your original post. I won’t lie, I like to see people defend their school and toot their own horn for a little while like they are in this thread, just don’t take it personally. It’s more for us than it is about you.

OOFF!! This thread is almost as hot as it was in San Diego yesterday! :P
