I have my DS and two others here for break :). I'm feeling blessed!

Well my DS was a bit down yesterday; plebes had seven setbacks in 1st Co four of whom he was close to - and when they say it gets harder as you go it does - his third tri carries a 22 hour load.

It certainly doesn't get any easier. I can remember the end of second tri during plebe year as one of the worst for my son. There is, however, good news ahead. Recognition will give them a much needed boost and sea year is coming. As he has moved forward he has learned to take setbacks in stride,
accepting them as just part of life at KP. It may seem a little cold to the rest of us but I think that is probably an important defense mechanism.

I'm hoping that the CAOs (Company Academic Officers) are taking their jobs as seriously as the CTOs (Company Training Officers/pushups,etc) did!
There's a lot of help rumored to be "Available", and I think it is... More of these kids need to be seeking it out .. I know one in particular who'd lower my blood pressure if he did.

For recognition, passed 8 of 10 PKTs. 2 more, plus whatever else has to be done. I don't think having a PKT just before exams was necessarily 'wise', but the whole group DID come together as a class ... if only to write "recognize 2011" for ever answer on the test. Sorry, I had to grin on that one ;)

Part of the process is learning to prioritize tasks so that the most important ones are dealt with first. Scheduling a PKT just before exams forces them to
evaluate their choices and make wise decisions. It's unlikely that anyone will be set back or dis enrolled for failing a PKT or an inspection, but, a final exam can "make or break" a student. When faced with this decision the class of 2011 opted for a solution that served the greatest number of their classmates. Congratulations to them. I heard that last year one of the companies allowed themselves to be intimated by the upperclassmen and stopped answering "recognize 2010."

A wise young man, is2day4him, gave my son important advice about the set-back and disenrollment of friends. He said to look at it the way that men in combat do, you will fight to the end with them, carry them, do anything for them, but if they are killed you have to go on and keep fighting and morurn them after the battle is won. It's the same at KP. My DS thought this was a great analogy.

dont get me wrong - he was not lamenting over it; today he is focused on class and the regiment. he's fine.

hmmmmmmmmmm rumors are recognition may be coming up very soon :D....

not a chance...

Dang. Good try Suzanne. Try starting a DIFFERENT rumor and see if THAT one gets any traction. If NO, then let's get IS2Day to start one ;)

Just for traditions sake... isn't there some special breakfast or something that 'signals' "TODAY IS THE DAY" for the plebes? If so , what is it? Also, what was the yuckiest weather ever for recognition? (Enquiring minds want to know)

so,,,,tonight they were told to report for a "motivational" run in their PT gear....perhaps the "last tatoo?" According to my DS this is first, especially since they had to report to a different location than normal. hmmmmmm

hmm... when we got recognized it was probably 35 degrees and there was a nice biting wind. because of that, patten said we couldn't have a mud pit, so it was altered, but a grinding 3.5 hours. the "tradition" is grilled cheese for lunch, although 2010's recognition day there was chicken sandwiches, so yeah...
if they're going to get recognized there will be a very obvious tension in the air. they'll know it.

So, what did they have for lunch today?

roast beef sandwiches
and the ever delightful chocolate chip cookies

Tomorrow grilled cheese is on the menu :D

And what is the weather supposed to be tomorrow? It's raining where we are tonight :)

Typical rejoinder in Delano:

What did you have for lunch?
roast beef sandwiches
and the ever delightful chocolate chip cookies

What will you have for supper?
Roast beef sandwiches w/gravy

For tomorrow, what is for lunch?
Grilled Cheese sandwiches.

For tomorrow, what will be for supper?
Ummm. I guess Grilled Cheese sandwiches with gravy?

my guess would be about ten more days or so...

LOL give or take! Not tonight though....:(

we were at KP this past Friday through Tuesday to see a couple of the lax games. No stress in the air to indicate that it is around the corner.
