Recommend a residence hall?

At my recent visit to Temple, I was shown all of Temple's residence halls. I liked and didn't like entities of all residence halls. For example, Johnson/Hardwick's proximity to the School of Communications was optimal, however, it isn't in the best shape. 1300 was a little far from cafeteria/Communications School, but it is in amazing shape and has some great amenities. Is the comfortability worth risking for the proximity to classes/cafeteria?

Also, what are the pros and cons of suites vs. regular, two-person dorm rooms?

bump bump bump

johnson and hardwick are nice enough( i live there now) and you get to meet a lot of people. Also, it is really nice to not have to walk outside to eat when it is cold.

1940 is also nice and close to everything…including communications

“1300 was a little far from cafeteria/Communications School”

Nothing at Temple is far from anything. 8 minutes gets you anywhere on campus.

i’ve heard that during freshman year you have mostly general classes, you’ll probably have classes in all the buildings. so you probably shouldn’t rule out a dorm only because it’s a bit further from a certain school.

but i’ve also been told by someone that goes to temple that 1940 and 1300 are filled with “obnoxious jocks”. how true is that? hopefully not much, those were the two i was deciding between. :p

Well 1300 is where the majority of the athletes are so…?

I’m a Temple alum (08), and I lived in Hardwick. It’s not the nicest dorm, but from what I heard, it seems that people who lived in the older dorms – Johnson, Hardwick, Peabody – had the most positive social experience. I recommend one of the older dorms. At least they all have AC now. When I was there, in Hardwick, I had no AC. It was unbearable at times. Also, we didn’t have a grocery store on campus. Temple has grown a lot recently.

Pick something like 1940 and Johnson and Hardwick. I live in 1300 and its definitely not the most social place. Being in the honors program there are alot of kids who don’t do anything fun and just sit on their computers. Even though the other dorms may not be as nice definitely a better social atmosphere depending on what you like to do.

My son is assuming he will be offered honors - can you tell me pluses/minuses of the honors housing and program? And could he live in another dorm and still be in the honors program? How are the Living Learning Communities? He will be a music major and is thinking of living in the performing arts LLC. Thanks for your feedback!

Bump–we’re also interested in the LLC for the School or Communication and Theatre. Anyone have experience with this LLC?

I went on a tour there and I liked the dorm that we were shown- it was either 1300 or 1940, I don’t remember!

It has a cafeteria and the dorms with four people in them. Thanks!

That was neither 1300 nor 1940 then.
