Recommend an engineering school

Thanks, mamag2855, but I’d prefer to study out of Virginia. I was born in Virginia, so I’d like to explore the other parts of the USA.

bopper, I did just now. But I’m not sure how accurate it is for me. For example, it says I have a 71% chance to be accepted to GA Tech. But as I’m sure we all know, that isn’t really true with my SAT scores. It also tells me I have a 2% higher chance to get in to T A&M than to Texas Tech…
I guess supermatch doesn’t assume my preffered major is Engineering!

Does anyone know if I should start my GA Tech application now already, even though there is a possibility I will get my ACT scores later on (Mid october-november)? The GA Tech deadline is OCT. 15th. Should I start an application with my current SAT scores and send them the ACTs later or should I first receive my ACTs and then proceed to my application? Basically, I’m just trying to apply early action for better chances and am wondering if that’s possible.
Thanks!

Call to see if the updated ACT scores will make it in time for EA.

Is your concern that you don’t have a complete application or are you hoping to replace old scores with the latest ACT ones? The first one is not an issue based on the link in #62. Honors program is tough to get into and scholarships rare for OOS students, but EA may improve your odds of getting in.

I think without better scores, it will be difficult to get into GaTech. I doubt they will substantially review your application before November.

Erin’s Dad: Call who exactly? GA Tech or ACT? Sorry, didn’t really understand…
PickOne1: I have low scores for UT Austin and GA Tech, which is why I took the ACT on Sept 12th. But the problem is I could get my scores anywhere from Oct 1st to November, so there is a chance I miss my GA Tech EA deadline…

GTech. They will know when the scores come out and when the record will be assessed.

If your options are really open, I believe there are some other universities across the world that offers engineering best as that of in the US since you’re not in the US best to widen your options so you could go to the university of your own preference. be the international student that you really are!

Well, I just got my ACT Scores… 28 composite, 29 English, 26 Reading, 25 Scienc, haven’t got writing scores yet, but… I GOT A 33 ON MATH! WOO-HOO! I’m guessing that’s good?

An ACT composite of 28 is still in the bottom 25%ile of Georgia tech applicants(25 - 75 %ile ACT range is 30 - 33), so it is still a reach for you, but good luck, you seem to have some other match/safety schools on your list! mamag2855: Don’t they look at scores seperate? I know my composite isn’t very good, but it’s still better than I expected, I had less than 20 days to study for the ACTs…

@GustafAngus , your scores are solid, just on the low side for GATech. It is difficult to predict how their admissions will evaluate your scores in the context of your whole application, and there are other factors as well, such as how many applicants there are for your selected major, since some programs are harder to get into than others. Keep your fingers crossed

I’m guessing they’re a bit on the low side for UT Austin engineering aswell then?
I’m actually just really really happy, because this was one of the few tests in my life where I believe I actually got the score that I studied for. Other times I usually stress too much and fail or just do something completely wrong.
Thanks for all your answers, everybody, I will post back when the first school tells me about my application. I think LSU starts admitting people in october… Anyway, thanks again and have a good one!

A 28 is right on the average for UT, but if you are OOS then your bar is higher. https://www.utexas.edu/sites/default/files/files/IMA_PUB_CDS_2013_AY.pdf

Just wanted to update with some good news: I sent my application for GA Tech and I already have an account and all that so I was able to catch early action. Furthermore, I just found out I got accepted to Texas Tech! Yay! I’m really happy right now

Well, I got denied into GA Tech, which was expected, seing as they had a 33% admission rate this year. Anyway, now that I am no longer binded to Tech, I can apply to other schools for Regular Decision. Currently I am an applicant for UT Austin, A&M, Clemson and have been accepted to Texas Tech. I will soon be applying to University Of Virginia/ Any other colleges you might recommend?

UT Austin and TAMU are top engineering schools. Both are stronger in STEM than UVA. I would say that TTU is underrated. Clemson is very good also. Your target schools are all fine.

@LakeWashington thank you, however, I am now panicking because of A&M, because I applied as early as I could (aug. 28th, all documents received on Sept. 2nd), and I STILL haven’t heard anything, and apparently this friday, they will make many decisions for Engineering review admits, but only those, who have already been accepted to A&M itself, so if I’m not accepted to A&M this week, I’ll have a hard time getting into engineering! :frowning:

@GustafAngus - How about sending applications to Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU) and/or George Mason University, they have very good engineering programs, but are not quite as competitive to get into, your stats are a better match for these 2 schools, I think UVA is another reach for you.

VCU is in Richmond, a really fun city to live in, very easy to get around(my 2 oldest daughters attend the University of Richmond and we really love the area!). GMU is in a DC suburb in VA, Fairfax, and it is very easy to get into DC via the metro. The regular decision deadline for both schools is Jan. 15th., so not much time left to apply.

http://www.ugrad.vcu.edu/apply/freshman/deadlines.html

the 25-75%ACT for GMU is 24-28
for VCU it is 21-26

GMU has computer engineering, game design, and a CS minor
VCU has computer engineering and computer science

My youngest daughter has been accepted to VCU for fashion merchandising(I know, very far removed from CS, but I have a ChemE degree and was very impressed with their engineering programs). My middle daughter applied to GMU for Biomedical Engineering, again, we were very impressed. I think both schools are overshadowed by Vtech and UVA, but they are very good schools with ABET accredited engineering programs.
