i live in ny but am open to going away. i would prefer the warmer weather, but will settle for any weather if it means a better school. i would like to stay on the east coast. i am looking for schools with a good communications program.

i'm not sure if i want to go to a large school or small school yet but want to know what schools are best for my major and my grades.

sat score: 1310/1960 (taking it again in june)
weighted average: 95

I found a communications programs list that liked these 20, in rank order.
University of Pennsylvania
Syracuse University
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Michigan at Anne Arbor
Pepperdine
University of Kansas (interesting idea)
University of North Carolina at Charlotte (interesting idea)
California State University at Northridge
University of Massachusetts Amherst
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
University of Iowa
Bowling Green State University (Ohio)
Northwestern University
University of Texas, Austin
University of Minnesota
James Madison University (interesting idea)
Gallaudet University
Alfred University
Baldwin Wallace College (Ohio!)
Sonoma University

A lot of these are quite hard to get into or in NY state. Let’s eliminate those for now. I think you might like Kansas, UNC Charlotte, or James Madison. I think that these are not terribly difficult to get into and I think they will be significantly warmer than New York. Check them out. I think they are worth checking out.

I live in Ohio and I think Bowling Green and Baldwin Wallace are good choices but both are in the north half of Ohio, which is only a bit warmer than New York. (I think that Bowling Green has automatic scholarship levels so you could determine in advance what sort of a merit scholarship you would get.)

I would say USC if you’re really bent on warm weather but Syracuse Newhouse school is best for Journalism/Communication. I’m not quite sure where you got your rankings from Midwestmom

Fordham is in NY, but in the city where its not as cold but has a pretty good communication program. University of Maryland also has a good journalism school

University of Florida has a very good and highly competitive college of communications as well, if you want to go to the South. And out-of-state tuition is affordable if money is an issue. Also, Mizzou has one of the best undergrad journalism programs in the country. University of Georgia’s communications program also has a good reputation, from what I hear.

yeah, i am considering miami and university of florida. i toured miami and loved it, but i’m not so sure about how the people are there from what i’ve heard. it’s also very expensive.

Syracuse is an obvious choice as they have one of the top communications programs in the country. If you can get your SAT up, I would also recommend UNC-Chapel Hill.

Unless you get your average and your SAT up considerably, I don’t think some of MidwestMom’s recommendations will be viable options (such as Northwestern, Penn, and UNC-CH because out of state is extremely selective to get into at UNC-Chapel Hill).

However if you do apply to those schools I wish you luck.

American University has a great communications school. It’s in DC (so slightly less cold weather), on the east coast and your SAT/GPA appear to be a match.

I would totally recommend USC. I know it’s west coast but Annenberg is amazing. It’s the sister school to Penns Annenberg school of communication.
