Recommend Hotel Near ECU

D and H will be visiting East Carolina University next week for a campus tour and I would like to book a nice, comfortable motel/hotel in Greenville.

Also, anything to do in the area??

Thanks.

MY D and W are visiting in November did you find a hotel? How was your visit?

Welcome to the Pirate Nation!

I would recommend staying at the Best Western ..2310 Greenville Blvd. NE...(800)780-7234

It is a nice hotel and very easy to get to ECU from there (if you're not familiar with Greenville).
My S is a freshman at ECU. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'll be glad to answer if I can.

Wherever you stay, be sure you EAT at Parker's!

mmmmm......I grew up eating Parker's and still do every time I'm in G'vlle.

Uh oh, PackMom, do we know each other? I grew up in Greenville.

What type of food is Parkers?

Sopranodad819.....Parker's is eastern NC style BBQ(chopped pork) complete with all the great sides including brunswick stew and cornsticks and great slaw. They also have fried chicken if some in your party don't like BBQ.

Harriet...I pm'd you

Thank You,I made a reservation at Best Western,I am looking foward to the BBQ I spent some of my younger years in Memphis and Dallas so I can appreciate good food(for a Yankee).

Hope you have a good trip and like what you see at ECU. My S loves it there so far.

My husband and daughter stayed at the Quality Inn during their campus visit the first weekend of October.

D really liked the college and she applied a few days thereafter. I tried to find a status check of the application online but it appears that the only way you know if you are accepted/denied or missing any documents is via snail mail?

ECU notified us that my D was missing transcripts from her HS 3 weeks ago so if you have not heard anything your file is most likely complete. Good luck, let me know if she gets in.

JerseyShoreMom, My S applied to ECU last year in the first week of Oct. He got his acceptance in the mail in the first week of November! I couldn't believe how fast it was. The search was over and senior year was stress free, such a relief. Applying early really helps. Some of S's friends who waited later to apply had a much longer wait time on acceptance letter. I guess all the apps. start to really pile up as the semester goes on. If (eventually) you feel like too much time has passed with no word, you can call admissions. One of S's friends did and they told him over the phone that he was accepted.

Glad your D liked ECU.

My D got admitted today, two weeks after they recieved school transcripts, that was fast!

Congrats sopranodad, was your D OOS?

More congrats for the quick acceptance. We didn't visit til after S2 was accepted (Varsity football player, couldn't get there until the season was over). I think he really sort of paid more attention to everything on the tour since he knew he was in and was 99% sure he was going.

Another good thing to do to get a feel for whats going on at ECU is to read the student newspaper. It comes out every Tues/Thurs. Just google The East Carolinian

Great day for Pirate football ECU 30 Memphis10...aaarrrggghhh

Thank You, She is from NY.

sopranodad. my roommate freshman year at ECU was from New York(Albany). Good friend who lived next to us in the dorm was from NJ. There are a surprising number of oos students at ECU. When S went to Orientation in June, they were all given ECU keycahins...the kind with the long ribbon attached to hang around your neck. There were different colors to represent where they were from. Of course North Carolina (with purple) was predominant but S was amazed at how many other colors there were. He was shocked to see a girl from California at ECU Orientation!

Very interesting, the school of music is starting to get national recognition. Do you know anything about the honors college? My D got in but is not sure about being in an honors dorm.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the Honors college . S2 is not honors college material, lol. There is a page about it on the ECU website if you do a search. It sounds pretty demanding from what I read. Can she take the honors classes if she wants to without living in the honors dorm?

From what I saw, the honors dorm is Umstead. It is on central campus (convenient to classroom buidlings) but sort of off by itself (residence hall wise). If she is interested in living there, you'll prob. have to go by and see it on your own. I'm pretty sure we didn't go by it on the "official tour".

When we took the "official tour" last winter we were not shown inside of any of the dorms. The tour guide told us that a "sample room" was available to see but was not part of the tour. We were encouraged to go by and look on our own after the tour. So be sure and leave time for that on your visit if your D is interested.
