Recommend me a school

Ok, so I'm currently a HS sophomore, and, like most of you spending any significant amount of time on this site, a college obsessed nerd. So I was wondering what schools you think wouldmatch up/ be attainable with my stats?

Scored in the 92nd percentile on the PSAT for HS sophomores.

PETA member

Washington State Resident
Would love to go far away! :)

Thanks!

Hell. Please, go to hell. People like you make people like me with the 2.2 GPA no ECs look bad.

In all seriousness, places you should look at- Bennington College (VT) Hofstra (NY) McGill (Canada) or possibly UBC, and I think Dartmouth is liberal. I know it’s good, but I don’t know anything other than that. And I know you want to go far away, but it’s never a bad idea to have someplace close to home. Look at Evergreen State. I don’t really know what to put down, you didn’t tell me what you want to go to college for.

Never thought about PETA membership until now, I think I’ll sign up. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, a liberal AND an abstinence supporter? How does that work?

haha thats a very good question. I actually recently dropped out of that group because I just couldnt preach to these people something I wasnt very serious about. But I was still a member for 2 years, so its definatly something! And I’d want to go to school for either Some sort of Ethics/ social work type of thing, or biology. Very different, I know. And I was thinking a larger university, maybe in the south. Emory, Umiami, Tulane, USC? I dont know, something like that. Thoughts?

Your score are pretty much good enough to go anywhere. (I mean like Cornell and above might be reaches)

I am partial to my home state so I am telling you to look at UVa and William&Mary. And that is "the south. UNC is similar to UVA. UGA is a nice safety if your scores are good.

great advice! thanks!

I was gonna suggest Tulane. I don’t know too much about southern colleges, though, I haven’t been looking at them because I’ve mostly been looking at schools around New England because that’s where I live, but I still hear things. Look into it I guess, but don’t stress out too much, you’re still a sophomore, you got time to make up your mind.

Nice profile, but nothing about your college budget. Sit down with your parents and run the financial aid calculators at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org) Then have a conversation about how your family can pay for it all.

ooh, the budget talk, thats a good idea! i better get some idea of what we can pay before i get my heart set on a super spendy university. Thanks!

Also, the parents here often suggest to build your list from the bottom up. Start with your saftiesw, and when you have those set ( 1 or 2 you know you will get in, no question and you know you can afford, no question) you can look at the match schools, then select your reaches. It makes a lot of sense.

For now and the summer, just get a Fiske guide to thumb through. Examine the Colleges That Change Lives website to find out about schools with different cultures and special programs. Learn what the costs of your instate and do find out what your parents can afford.

Come back when you have your SAT’s and your Jr year GPA.

Two ultra-liberal CA colleges you might like are Snatfurd and Bezerkeley. I guarantee you’ll meet people who will make you look conservative at those schools.

Never, EVER apply to Hofstra. I live literally 20 minutes from Hofstra, and I can never understand why on earth anyone would pay 40k a year for a bottom-tier school. If you really want to attend a school in NY, apply to the SUNYs, they’re much more prestigious than Hofstra, and they’re PUBLIC schools.

But with your scores, you should definitely look into top tier schools.
