Recommend me some colleges in the South/West...

Here's the deal:

I'm currently a junior at a leading prep school in Atlanta. I'm just starting to look at colleges, and I wanted some suggestions for some to look at. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.3 (unweighted)
PSAT: 194

Can anyone give me some suggestions of schools to look at that are in the Southeast/West?

Mandatory Emory

Georgia Tech is in your backyard, as is Emory. UGA isn't far away. UF is good, but why not just go to UGA. Duke is a great school, but your GPA is a bit low. UNC is good too, but hard to get into. I think I've hit most of the big boys.

Also, the majors that I'm really thinking of are Sports/Fitness Administration and Management, Communications, and Broadcast Journalism. Would prefer medium sized and up schools.

Loyola Marymount University, L.A. has a sport management program I believe, and it is welcoming to B students. Beautiful campus, in a safe area, on a hill overlooking Marina Del Rey. There's a pre-journalism program and also a School of Film and Television. Good ties to L.A. television industry.

Chapman U in Orange County (about 45 minutes from the L.A. area) has Broadcast Journalism. This college is an up and comer, growing fast. Great connections to "the biz" in L.A.

Pepperdine: Malibu campus with Christian emphasis. Business, management, sports medicine UG, telecommunications-broadcast journalism.

You could look at the websites for Arizona State and U of Arizona.

You are perfect for Wofford or Sewannee...but you dont want a small school.

So.....how about University of South Carolina, Wake Forest, Elon University, NC State, Appalachian State, Virginia Tech. Elon has AMAZING broadcast journalism facilities...state of the art and they place kids in GREAT jobs when they graduate....like CNN, MSNBC, SNL, etc.

Good luck!

catfishin had great suggestions. I'd add the College of Charleston, Samford, UNCW, and Miami.

Chapman is good for communications, but doesn't have the sports administration degree. Still, it's a nice school. I've heard University of Arizona is good for that. Also, University of the Pacific is popular in our area. It has both Sports Management and Communications majors.

Colorado College is a small LAC. It has a great location, good reputation, and an unusual format: block scheduling. It may be right for you.

look at Tulane. Good mid-sized southern school and with your stats you stand a good chance of acceptance

As far as Small LAC's go:

-Rhodes College
- Colorado College
-Whitman College
- Centre College
-Pitzer College
-Pomona College
- Reed College
-Hendrix College
-Davidson College
-Washington and Lee College

ummmmm... yea that's all I can think of

"Sports/Fitness Administration and Management"

GT has a top notch management program (although no one knows about it because of the engineering). It's right next to CNN headquarters and in the heart of Atlanta. Just, whatever you do, don't go to UGA :)

G-Tech, UGA, and Emory are probably the best for you in your region. Though some of the Cal States and UCs would be good too.

My older D LOVED LMU.....a wonderful place!

Don't students with 3.0 GPA's and higher get full in-state tuition at UGA through the Hope Scholarship or something? No reason to spend 4 times as much to go elsewhere and it's very good in the areas you are looking at.

another reccomendation for hendrix: students i know there seem to love it. check it out.

Yeah, but I'm worried I won't be accepted because thousands and thousands of kids just like me from the same area apply there.

Georgia is a HUGE school......and unless you want to take a bus to class every day and be in animal house dorms.....go elsewhere. My personal view is that you can do better.

Any other ideas for me?
