Recommend Schools for Me

I've pretty much been through the list of "very well known" universities (i.e. ranked) and have made a list of schools I'm considering (some of which are definites) that I will apply to. What I'm really wanting to get a feeling of is what I'm missing out of on the LAC/not as well known college side of things. I don't want to pass up a great school just because I didn't know anything about it. So far I've got:

Boston U
Brown
Cornell
Columbia
Emory
Harvard (yeah...right)
Northwestern
U Chicago
Georgetown
NYU
UPenn
UT - Austin
Yale (not so sure it's worth trying)

Here's a short rundown on me (try to make very brief):

Freshman at CC
4.0 GPA
ENGL I/II, HIST I/II, GOVT I/II, ACCT I/II, ECON I/II, CALC I/II/III, DIFF EQUATIONS, PHYSICS I/II, BUSINESS SPEECH, COMPUTER SCIENCE...think that's all I have/plan to take. Several honors courses sprinkled in there.
SAT: Math - 670 Reading - 770 Writing - 780 (Essay 12) Retaking
ACT: 32 - RETAKING!!!! I HATE SCIENCE IT RUINED MY SCORE!
SAT II: they'll all be over 750, except maybe Math II which might be 730-40.
ECs: Vice President Student Govt., Vice President Honors Society, Press Reporter for Business Club, Member of top college choir. Will be sending in a demo.
Work 35 hours a week for past 3 years.
Essays: I consider myself very dedicated and a substantially good writer, so essays should be good.
Recs: Hmmm...I have some ideas, but I like a lot of my profs so we'll see.

What I'm looking for:

Economics Major (Business major for NYU, Georgetown, UT)
Study Abroad would be a nice option, but I know some smaller colleges won't have much to offer there.
Diverse, liberal campus. I'm coming from Texas and I'm tired of the conservatism.

Like I said, I've kinda filtered through the big univerisities, but if there's anything else yall would recommend tell me. What I'm really looking for are the great, smaller colleges or lesser known universities that sound right for me.

Rice!!!!!!!!

lol i saw that coming...and i guess i should say rice is a nice school and transfer friendly, but i'm really wanting to leave texas for the next 2 to 3 years. Rice is WAY too close to home, considering we live 20 miles north of Houston, and I want a true college experience (on my own).

Wash U! Well, I like it anyways...

thanks i'll check it out what do you like about it?

Are you going? Did you get off the Chicago waitlist?

Umichigan!!!

i was looking at michigan for awhile and really liked their b-school which i'm guessing is crazy hard to get into outta state (like haas) and I think I found something on their site that said you have to take such and such courses to transfer, but NO courses would transfer from a CC (not even a CC in Michigan). That's a big problem...same deal with Stanford and UVA that ultimately made me mark them off.

boston college, notre dame, dartmouth ?

I would strongly recommend looking at some LACs like you said.
Think about Williams College or Amherst. Visit them if you get a chance...they have very different environments compared to the larger schools on your list.

maddskillz: i've read alot of bad stuff a/b BC on studentsreview.com to the effect that its a wanna be party school with a very homogeneous student body, two things i don't like.

Notre Dame...I'll ck it out.
Dartmouth...major party school (could be good, but parties seem to throw my academics off a bit :) )

Windcloudultra: I checked out Williams and Amherst. Both look very interesting, but I was discouraged by the incredibly small number of students they admit for transfer.

To add to that last post...do you think the applicant pool to places like Amherst is as strong as those to places like Brown, because if so, my chances are slim. If they (Amherst) are only choosing 15 or so transfers out of 168 (I think) and all the applicants have stellar academics, I won't stand out and it'll be a waste of time. I have a passion for music (and I believe I have a gift), but my biggest weakness is ECs.

bump (10 char)

The people are so friendly at Wash U...the school runs like butter. Whenever I have a question, I call and in five minutes I have an answer. So since UChicago didn't seem to have it all together this year concerning transfer applicants, I will be attending Wash U.

well thats a good reason...i've heard alot of bad stuff a/b the administration at chicago from the chicago transfer thread.

I'll definitely check Washington U out, it sounds nice.

I do have another question though, after looking a little more. How are my chances for UVA McIntire? Is this basically the same as places like Haas and McCombs where it's really hard to transfer if you're OOS, or should I apply?

Any desire to go to the west coast? I noticed all your schools you mentioned for the main part are east coast.

yeah i liked cali (which is basically the only west coast state with good schools) but most are either state or the privates (stanford, CIT) are out of my league. I was pretty interested in Haas until I realized how daunting the numbers are and came to the conclusion that probably nearly everyone admitted to Haas is in state.
