recommend some schools, plz!

Hi, I’m a rising senior and I need some advice on which schools to apply to.

Here are some of my “stats”:

GPA 3.65 (unweighted), 4.41 (weighted)
SAT 2140 (770V, 710W, 660M)
SAT II Writing 780, Chinese w/ Listening 780, Math IIC 740, US History 690
APs US History 5, Lang & Comp 4, Macroecon 4, Microecon 4, BC Calc 3 (AB subscore 4)
PSAT 220 (I’ve only included this because I want to know if anyone thinks that’s high to be at least a National Merit commended student?)

I’m also in the IB program (I got a 5 on the IB SL Econ and a 6 on IB SL Spanish).

Some of my extracurriculars include:
-Varsity, JV, and coed volleyball. (4 years of participation, I was a starter for the last 3, I lettered in varsity last year, and received a Scholar Athlete Award)
-Asian American Club (committee board member, 4 years of participation)
-NHS (2 years)
-Spanish Honors Society (publicity committee member, 2 years of participation)
-School Orchestra (first violin section, 2 years of participation)

Work experience: SAT grammar and writing prep class instructor at my Chinese school since this February and I was a camp counselor this summer

Volunteer experience: rec volleyball coach, volunteer for the local government, summer reading assistant and “reading buddy” at library, tutor

Misc: Honor Roll. I think I can write semi-decent application essays. I'm an Asian female - would that be a factor?

As you can see, my GPA and SAT/AP scores are very low and I am very concerned. I have three safety schools and I’m not sure how safe they are:
1. UMD at College Park – well, both my parents went to grad school there, my dad used to worked there, and I’m a state resident, so this is pretty safe
2. USC
3. UVA
What I really would like is recommendations for some match and reach schools that I should apply to, preferably a total of 4 schools. Should I apply to anywhere ED? I am thinking about a business/econ major. Thank you!

P.S. My Dad wants me to apply to UPenn ED, Northwestern, Princeton, and Georgetown. But I think I will most likely (like 90% chance) be rejected from all of them.

USC and UVA are by NO means safeties for anyone. Especially out of state.

You need to reevaluate your safety schools.

And I don't think your GPA is low at all. A 4.4/3.7 is not something to be worried about.

i'm not applying to USC's theater or film school, so I thought it would be kind of safe. =/

and USC is private, so state residency doesn't matter.

are you only interested in big universities? do you care what part of the country?
(uva might be a reach for out of state, definitely NOT a safety

USC IS NOT A SAFETY!!!.It has a 29% acceptance rate and rigorous admission standards no matter which school you are applying to. And UVA is definitely not a safety school. It is a REACH for you if you out-of-state. UMD-College Park as of now is your only true safety. Look for schools with 50+acceptance rate for safeties I would recommend.

thanks guys i will definitely look for more safety schools. and i'll also be looking for some reach schools that aren't that unreachable.

i really don't care where i go to school. so i'm open to any recommendations.

USC and UVA aren't safeties for you.

A2Wolves, if you haven;t noticed, that has been stated multiple times lol

just found out my high school was ranked 11th in the nation according to some newsweek article. you might be interested in looking up your own schools...

Might look at Holy Cross and Bowdoin both very good LAC's with optional SAT"S.

Sorry I generally don't read anything but the first post.
