Recommend Some Universities for Me Based on What I Have and Want?

Bumping again

Don’t go to CC unless you’re ready to accept the possibility of not being able to transfer to a 4-year college (at least anywhere good). Transferring is much harder than just getting in as a freshman.

I don’t think anyone should aim for CC unless their grades and scores are truly abysmal. Yours aren’t. Talk to your counselor about it and, aside from that, look at some colleges that aren’t too expensive (or give good financial aid) and that you think you can get into, based on scattergrams and such.

@emberjed: I agree with you, I’m not going to CC unless I’m rejected /everywhere/.

The two SUNYs I found that I thought were safeties seemed to match… so that’s why I’m asking, to be sure.

Check out Union College in Schenectady. They have a Classics major, and just may fit your needs.

Union College isn’t a SUNY, though. I’m only looking at SUNYs for safeties because no one here will leave me alone about them. I do not want to go to school in New York. But thanks for the suggestion!

How about the University of Mississippi? I heard they give good financial aid, sounds like I can get in, they have a pretty good ranking, seem to have the majors I want, high acceptance rate…

Bumping again, chances at Bridgeport, Potsdam, and the University of Mississippi?

Bumping again

Bumping again, or should this be put in the chances thread?

Bumping again

I’m confused. I thought you said you don’t want to study in NY? So what is Potsdam doing on your list? Bridgeport isn’t even a top tier school, I thought you wanted a ‘name’ university?

I DON’T, but everyone in here is telling me I need a SUNY, a safety, and that I’m an idiot for not choosing one and any time I try to suggest any other school, it’s like “you need a SUNY” or “that school doesn’t give any financial aid” or “you’re too smart for that school, aim higher” or the exact opposite. I DO want a name school, but then my SATs come in the picture; they’re not good for any name school (cept maybe Wake Forest, but I consider that a reach, but I already have four reaches and don’t want any more.)

I’m starting to want to just close this thread and pick some colleges /without/ any feedback. First I asked for recs, got bashed for expecting so much and was told “sunysunysuny.” Since I wasn’t getting anything, I did my OWN research, as I probably should be, and came here for feedback. But no matter what I do, everyone has a complaint about my choice.

It’s October 3rd and I don’t have ANY college in mind. That is bad. This thread just seems to be holding me back, so I might just have to continue doing my own research and just hope the school offers financial aid AND accepts me.

Brace yourselves, my SAT scores are coming…

Okay, so they’re still not great, but I improved A LOT, in my opinion.

CR: 550 M: 600 W: 600 Overall: 1750.

What sucks is I improved the most in my writing, when colleges care about that the least. Really?! ._.;

*How about the University of Mississippi? I heard they give good financial aid, sounds like I can get in, they have a pretty good ranking, seem to have the majors I want, high acceptance rate…

Where did you hear that??? I highly doubt that Ole Miss gives good FA to OOS students. Ole Miss does have merit awards for OOS students, but your stats aren’t high enough for those.

Are you instate for NY or NJ? If you’re not instate for NY, then a NY SUNY may not be affordable either. I didn’t go back and reread the prior posts, but if you have a low EFC, then you need to find some instate publics to apply to. NY and NJ give good aid to their own INSTATE students who are low income.

You’re right…a bump in the Writing isn’t a help…your math plus CR is what really counts.
