Anyone recommend DC++? Even though it is illegal, a lot of my suitemates and others are using it. Should I download the program also?

HELL YES you should. I share 70GB+ on there, lots of great files available, isn't monitored by ResComp, go for it.

it is illegal Blue Elmo and not worth risking IF Res Com is monitoring.

If it was open knowledge that ResComp did monitor the DC hub, then it would have been shut down A LONG TIME AGO. Huh?

I tried it, it's okay.

DC++ is the best filesharing option on campus. Extremely high speeds, doesn't count toward bandwidth, and very hard to get sued (the hub is only open to those on-campus or those that can tunnel in via VPN--that means your average RIAA/MPAA hack can't get in).

It doesn't go towards bandwidth? How does that work?

The bandwidth counter only applies to information uploaded/downloaded to/from respectively outside the Berkeley LAN (ie. all INTERNET traffic). The DC++ hub is on-campus, and thus students who are also on on-campus connections connect to the hub via the Berkeley intranet (LAN), and none of the bandwidth on Berkeley's network is counted (or monitored for that matter, as far as I know).

That's what people say, but I've seen people experience otherwise, as in, it's counted. Try an experiment- check your usage for the week, download something on the program, and see if it's counted. My guess- it is.

Well it isn't for me.

Bandwith is not counted when using DC++.
