im a senior in HS now, but i'm going to do pre-med i college. i'm taking calculus now, so do you think i should take calc again in college or should i take a higher level of math?

Take multivariable calc if you don't want to repeat HS calculus again.

depends on how you're doing in the class and how well you do on any placement exam you might have to take.

I personally ran into my math ceiling with pre-calc, so calc was a struggle. I didn't do great in HS but took Calc I again in college and managed a very easy A-. It worked out well for me.

right now I have a B in calc. i think i could do better with a better teacher so it might be worth it to re-take the course. i guess i can just decide once a decide WHERE i'm going next year!

re-take!!! Well, it depends on your college. Multivar is MUCH harder than calc I/II at my college. It may be the other way around for you. Make your decision on take/retake based on how easy the professor is. The good thing about retake is that you will be reviewing a lot (but it could be bad because you could get lazy and not study). Also, if you're in a physical science major (engineering, etc.) then you have to take multi. Remember, there is no multivariable calc on the MCAT and physics usually builds upon calc I/II (i may be wrong here).

There is no calculus period on the MCAT. You don't need calc-based physics for the MCAT.

However, look at the med school prereqs and what students who get in have taken, definitely take the calculus. Starting with first semester calc is not a bad idea, especially when college courses can be academically tougher and cover more than AP. In my day, eons ago, only Harvard required calculus, now it's more common. BTW, there are 3 semesters of calc before advanced math classes. You will get better physics if it is calc based and if you major in a science you will want it- either to improve your credentials for medical school or if you go to grad school instead. Even economics majors are required to take calc, it is much less esoteric than in my day.
