Recommendation Form From Rival School (DA and Choate)

Today has been spent mainly organizing recommendation forms for my teachers who all seem to want paper forms, and I I have come across an issue. I have decided to use the same teacher for my Deerfield teacher other than English and Math rec. and my Choate supplementary rec., and was planning on using the DA form because it is my top choice school and that rec. is mandatory rather than the Choate one which is optional. But then I remembered that Choate and Deerfield are rival schools. Do you think this is a big issue? I dont want to offend anyone one in the admin. office. I also dont want to ask my teacher to fill out two different forms and there is not standard gateway form for this. What should I do?
Thanks in advance

They are sports rivals, not sworn blood enemies, so they will not view it as some fundamental betrayal. They know that kids apply to other similar schools. I doubt they will care, and i doubt it will influence their decision.

However, are you sure the form is not on Gateway? It was last year, I think. If a school requires it I am pretty sure they put it there.

the form is on gateway online but not as a pdf thanks blairparent

bsschoolsearcher: Thacher has several pdf’s of Gateway forms on its webiste. If you mean personal recommendation when you say supplementary recommendation, it’s there.

Thanks Calrenoma but it is not a personal recommendation it is something that Deerfield does that has to be by an academic teacher and I thought that Choate’s “Supplementary Recommendation”, also unique, was closest to that. So I am doubling up on it. My personal recommendation is being written by my theatre teacher and advisor, but he cant write my Deerfield one because he is not a teacher of an academic subject.

Are you sure about that?

I agree with ChoatieMom
Choate and Deerfield are more than just sports rivals
But don’t worry about “offending” anyone in admissions-they’re usually very objective about this

I go to Choate and just experienced Deerfield Day. But just a month before that, we were inviting Deerfield students here for an inter school dance. Trust me, it’s just a sports rivalry.

Here is a funny story that will help put things into perspective for you.

My son applied to many top-tier BS last year (he fortunately was accepted everwhere). After March 10, I went back and reviewed some of the essays. I realized that we forgot to carefully edit the Andover parent essay. In particular the following quote was in the body of the essay:

I almost fainted when I saw that line. My wife and I wrote so many essays in such a short time, that we overlooked this. Fortunately enough though, the Admissions Office at Andover overlooked this, and he was accepted anyway.

So my suggestion is to not worry about it so much. The schools know that students apply to multiple places. If your stats and story are compelling enough, you should be fine.

@prepschoolhopes To me it’s more than a sports rivalry
