Senior. Starting to apply for colleges. I am planning on getting a recommendation from my history teacher who knows me very well and sponsors a club in which i am the president of, so i know he'll write me a good recommendation. But i also did an internship this past summer in biomedical research and it mostly focused on ovarian cancer. I recently presented my research in front of a couple scientists and my boss (who is also scientist) said i did a very good job and is willing to write me a letter of recommendation for college. He works with UPenn, and that is my number one choice for school, so Penn is definitely familiar with his institute's research. How much would that help me when applying to colleges (specifically UPenn) ?

You are required to have 2 LORs from HS teachers, the one from your boss can only be a supplemental LOR.

What is important is what is said about you, not the position of the writer or where they work.
