recommendation letter question

So I have a what I consider an excellent recommendation letter from an Associate Dean of my school. It's the second best letter I have. However, the problem is that the letter was written a year ago when I was considering a completely different major. I think it would be difficult for me to go back and ask for a revised letter since 1) I've already graduated for over a year and 2) he probably doesn't even have the time. The content is fine for any major, pretty much all about my academic / research ability and moral character.

1) Submit the letter as one of the required recommendation
2) Submit the letter as an additional recommendation
3) Not submit the letter at all

Yes, I have copies of it sealed in an official envelope

Thanks for any help

Ask for a revised letter. Professors receive requests for updated letters all the time from students who have been out of school for a year or more, and they are happy to oblige for individuals they feel positively toward. One of my professors told me he still receives letter requests from people who were postdocs in his lab nearly a decade ago.

You cannot send the letter as is - it’s dated as last year and will not be useful if it doesn’t contain the writer’s current impressions about you.
