Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering how much extra recommendation letters are valued.

...I'm of course getting one from two teachers but also will be getting one recommendation letter from the premier of my province and one from a high-profile cabinet minister federally.

Will those last two matter any? Will they have an impact?

Cheers,

Unless they personally know you, you have worked with them, and they can actually describe you through interesting and revealing anecdotes, then no the recs they write will not really help you. If it is only a one-sentence rec saying something like “I knew so-and-so’s family for many years and he is a great student, blah” then it might actually hurt you because it would look like you were just trying to impress the admissions officers with your family’s connections.

Thanks for the reply.

I know both very well and the letters will be long, in-depth and from them personally.

Also how much weight would a Harvard alumni recommendation have? Again I know him personally and the letter would be in-depth and have a few stories, etc.
