Hi! I know this must have already been asked and answered, but I can't seem to find an answer! If I apply ED to a uni, can the rec letters be specifically for that college?
Meaning, if I get rejected, can the teachers resubmit a new letter for the RD round?
Thanks!

They can be specifically tailored for your ED college – but don’t need to be. Like you surmise, what if the answer in December is Reject or Defer and you have to submit other applications? There’s nothing wrong with this LOR being general. All colleges fully understand this – it’s not a detriment to you either way. Having it be general saves you from having to bother the LoR writer if you need to get another version later.

thanks for the quick reply!

Hold up @HSfreshman95. I’ve wondered the same thing. And I’m pretty sure the answer is no for the common app. The recs (again, this is for the common app) must be generic, even between ED and RD.

Here’s how I know. One of my teachers submitted their online letter, which was generic. I was confused about why they made it generic, so I tried deleting their letter from my application and asking them to resubmit with a personalized letter. The letter deleted fine, but when I re-invited them, it said “submitted already” or something like that.

So once a rec is submitted to your common app, there’s no changing it even if the teacher wants to. I suggest making them generic.

Alright thanks for the advice, I’ve emailed CommonApp to see what their policy actually is
