Recommendation Letters

Hey future CMU applicants/other CC members

Most of my friends at school are getting the recommendation letters from a math/science teacher and a social studies/english teacher. However, my strengths are in the sciences, and I'm quite confident that my physics teacher would write me a better rec than my english teacher (I have already asked my stat/comp sci teacher for a rec). Regardless, who did you guys get your recs from

Sincerely

An incredibly busy/anxious/nervous college applicant.

Keep in mind that some colleges have different requirements - MIT, Harvey Mudd, and some others require one recommendation to be from the sciences and the other to be from humanities. I did one from my English teacher and one from my calculus teacher because of this…

But if the school you’re applying to doesn’t have any of these requirements then it doesn’t matter. I don’t believe CMU has any of these requirements for who you get your recommendation from so feel free to get two science recommendations.

I agree, you should make sure you pick the best teacher recommender, not just for the most diverse subjects. Personally i got mine from my Physics and Calculus teacher

CMU only requires one teacher LOR, the second would be a supplemental:

I’m not seeing anywhere that says that different schools within CMU ask for more LORs.
