Recommendation Letters?

Hi, I'm really confused about Evaluations A and B. Do I need an actual recommendation letter from each teacher, a filled out evaluations sheet that's provided on the website, or both?
Thanks.

Either or both.

MIT would like to see the responses to the questions in the form, but if your teacher would like to provide those responses within his or her letter, that’s totally fine. Most teachers fill out the form and write a letter in addition.

@molliebatmit I mean - my teachers wrote me recommendation letters that don’t directly answer the questions. Is it okay if I just send the evaluation sheet?

Why not send the letters plus the evaluation sheet?

@molliebatmit If they’ll accept it, sure. I just thing they would be flooded with superfluous info.

@molliebatmit ALSO - do I need the MIT Supplemental Document Cover Sheet if I send the letters?
By the way, I think it said somewhere that I need to send a copy of my green card. Do I need to? I don’t want to do that…?

@MITChris I need you!

No, many or most teachers send the evaluation form plus a letter. You don’t need to submit the supplemental document cover sheet if your teachers send a letter with the evaluation form – this is an expected piece of the application.

Yes, you need to send a copy of your green card. It’s possible that if you have a social security number, it may not be necessary to send the copy, but I’m sure you can understand that MIT needs to be able to verify the citizenship status of admitted students.

@molliebatmit I have a social security number, where do I enter that?

My teacher’s recommendations were sent to MIT, they are generic letters of recommendation. I looked on the spot where I was supposed to download the forms and both say processed and are inactive. I don’t think they address the info, but do you think it’s okay since they are processed and I haven’t received a complaint?

“Please note, once we have processed the above forms, these links will become inactive.”

Like I can’t even download the forms anymore because they have been processed, is this okay? They submitted through Naviance, did it somehow force them to fill it out? I am applying RD, yet to submit my app, should I just let it fly and see if they complain?

No matter what, MIT will not complain to you – the letters your teachers chose to submit are the letters they chose to submit. It’s just information that MIT prefers to see addressed in the letters, but they can’t force teachers to write a certain way.

Don’t worry about it.

I’m not sure – I don’t have access to the application, so I can’t answer these sorts of technical questions. If you have questions about whether and how to submit a copy of your green card, you should call the admissions office during business hours.

Like even the cover sheet that says eval A & eval B, with the check boxes, I didn’t provide those.
