So here is my situation:

I am a current Senior planning on applying early to a few schools and then regular to a few more. Last year I had asked my math and english teacher to write my letters. I am fairly certain they will be strong. Additionally, I have a supplemental letter of recommendation from my summer research advisor.

My issue is that I am planning on majoring or at least indicating interest in the basic sciences, particularly biology and chemistry. I took AP Bio last year--does it look bad that I have no recommendation from a science teacher (my advisor doesnt really count)? I am thinking about asking him to write one for the regular round, but doesn't four letters come off as a bit obnoxious? These are all in addition to the required counselor letter as well!

Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks a lot--I appreciate it :)

I’d suggest that if u already have good recommendations then don’t plan on sending any more. Admission officers at times do get tired of reading so many recommendations from a single applicant, specially since they have thousands of other application to consider as well.

There’s a reason they only ask for 2 recommendations.

You have it covered with math and english teachers. As the other poster said, 4 is overkill.

The exception to the 2 letter rule, would be if there is a specific reason that another teacher can show a different facet of your abilities and/or experiences. For example, a coach might write an extra letter, if you helped the team achieve a state title.

I also might consider an extra letter if you are applying ED to HYP and your stats might not be tippy top, and a rec letter will explain why. Or perhaps if you have a rec letter from a Nobel Prize Winner that indicates you have more potential than they did at your age.

Good Luck. Remember my advice when you are Stockholm. And I want a sperate paragraph or chapter in your bio…

Out of curiosity, OP, did u do something like RSI? Where did you apply early? Cause for future schools, for some reason if ur dissatisfied with ur math teach Lor, then u can get ur science teachers for other schools…
