The columbia app allows for 2 teacher rec's and one from guidance. If I want to send in more, what would I have the teacher use for a form? Anyone who applied send in more than the required? My teacher recs are going to be my english and chem teachers, but for SEAS they require a math and one other teacher. I don't want to not send in my best 2 rec's so I want to do the math along with the english and chem teacher recs. Any suggestions/advice?

Make photocopies. Or just have the teacher write a letter. Be creative. Seriously.

This is almost one of those situations of, "If you have to ask this kind of thing, maybe you should reconsider...". The typical Columbia student will be proactive enough to just solve this minor logistical issue on their own without asking The Internet's opinion.

It wasn't so much the logistics of the letter so much as should you send an extra one when they only ask for the two. It's obvious how to include another letter, but would doing so make them feel like you're padding the application.

If they don't want a third letter, they just won't look at it. It can't hurt to include it.

I sent 3 teacher recs, because my best recs were my English and History Recs, but SEAS required a Math rec. Make sure they say different aspects about you. Don't even bother using a form for the third one, just tell your guidance office to include it with your transcript.

mikemaddog...thanks. I'm in the same situation and it's nice to know that you can still send in 3. I wish they would let you do a science or math teacher for SEAS instead of just math. Oh well...

yeah, i sent in my math, bio and english teachers cause the latter two were the best. just send in three, it cant hurt.

believe it or not, i had four. The requested science/math one (I actually sent a physics teacher), and a history teacher... but I also had one from the principal (he had had a lot of personal dealings with me and had worked out several special arrangements that reflected on my maturity, etc) and from my boss at the full-time job I held during my 'senior year' of HS, who also had a lot to say about my work ethic. So I had two academic ones and two personal ones.

sorry for being snarky, wheels.

No prob Denzerz...I worded it funny so it was hard to tell what I was asking. Thanks for the input!

I think I would feel bad if I started a new thread instead of placing my question in this one so this post is partially a bump.

I was planning on sending in 3 recs but do you think a recommendation from my engineering teacher will be fine instead of one from my math teacher? If so that would prevent me from bugging my math teacher who makes it known to all of us that he does not want to write recs. (I feel if I get one from him it won't be good.)

that shouldn't be a big deal. As I said above, I had a physics teacher rather than a math teacher.

oh thanks. This is odd, I don't even remember reading that post. Maybe I never did and thus, posted that question for no reason.
