recommendation question

I'm sure the answer to this is somewhere here, but there's tons of info to look through and it's a short question.

Do recs have to be from only academic teachers? I have one from my English teacher, and was planning on getting my photography teacher for my second. Would that not be accepted? Does it vary from school to school? I've taken a great deal of photography in high school, will send in a photo supplement, and it will be represented in my ECs--still a no-no just because it isn't academic? I think it would be a lot more useful than getting one from a math or science teacher or something, people who don't know me as well and who teach subjects I'm not interested in and plan not to pursure in college. But I do understand that generally academic recs are the way to go, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were required.

Long question for a short answer, I know.

Thanks!

Double check for each school. Some schools REQUIRE that both be from academic teachers. For those schools, if allowed, you can always send a supplemental rec.

it varies from school to school. some have strict requirements about one rec coming from a science/math teacher, and another from an english/social science teacher. some required that the recs come from teachers you have in junior or senior year. some require just one, for the others a minimum of two, some none at all. better to check each of your schools' requirements. i think you should use your photography teacher's rec as an additional recommendation, instead of one of the main required ones. good luck harvey.
