Recommendation(s)

Rensselaer's website says that it requires "a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher. A recommendation provided by a math or science teacher is preferred."

Do you know if they will frown upon submitting multiple letters of recommendation? Like, two to three?

Two, I would think not. It isn’t really unprecedented to send in one more recommendation than asked for. I can’t answer for three, though.

I think your chances of acceptance are rather high regardless of how many recommendations you submit, though.

Haha thanks. Actually, I emailed my regional admissions officer and he wrote back:

Hm. Alright. Well, the reason I was worried was because the two teachers I planned on using for all of my schools were my French and English teachers, and RPI suggests a math/science one. But one of my other schools requires a math/science teacher, so I guess this is gonna get more complicated no matter what, lol.

But if anyone has a similar question regarding a different school, note that this is just RPI’s policy. Other schools on my list that require one rec, when I checked their websites, said things like “at least one” or “letter(s) of recommendation,” suggesting that they didn’t mind extras. RPI was the only one that I contacted, as their website didn’t say anything suggesting that more than one was okay.

Just ask a math/science teacher to write a recommendation for you as well, and only send it to the schools that you need to send it to (RPI, and I’m guessing, Case Western).

Do not send in more than the ask for, especially if they are explicitly limiting it. You will be fine with only one, especially considering your legacy status and SAT score.
